Pocket-proof: Didn’t squash in my leggings' pocket and no waste from wrappers.
Tasty: Bakewell flavour comes through quickly.
Runner-friendly texture: Easy to chew and didn't stick in my teeth
Gentle on the stomach: Sat well while running
Variety: Comes in multiple flavours, so you’re not limited to just one.

Finding energy bars that are tasty, practical, and easy on the stomach can be a minefield. Too many are either claggy, over-sweet, or a pain to open when you’re mid-stride. The One Good Thing flapjack takes a different approach: wrapper-free, pocket-friendly, and made with simple, natural ingredients. I tested the Bakewell flavour on the run to see how it holds up across taste, nutrition, performance, and value — here’s how it scored.

The Short Scoop

23-24g Carbohydrate per bar
Wrapper Free
Fits in your pocket
£1.66 per bar (When bought on subscription)
Best for long rides, runs and swims

Taste & Texture

When I first bit into the One Good Thing flapjack energy bars, I noticed the edible beeswax coating. It’s neutral in taste, less than half a millimetre thick, so it doesn’t interfere with flavour. Instead, the almond and cherry notes from the Bakewell filling shine through, giving a subtle sweetness that feels natural, never artificial or cloying.

In terms of texture, this energy bar nails the balance. It’s soft and chewy enough to eat comfortably mid-run, yet firm enough to hold its shape in a pocket. In testing, it didn’t crumble, flatten, or stick to my teeth, which makes it a standout compared to many other energy bars that can be messy or hard to chew while moving.

Nutrition Profile

Each 39 g bar provides around 23–24 g of oat-based carbohydrates, making it a compact but fuel-dense snack. The ingredients list focuses on simple, natural choices like oats, honey, and natural flavourings.

Because of its size, the bar delivers energy without unnecessary bulk. The beeswax coating has negligible nutritional impact; it’s there to protect the bar, not to add flavour or calories. During my runs, the release of energy felt steady and reliable — exactly what you want from an energy bar designed for endurance activity.

Performance

Performance is where the One Good Thing flapjack really shines. With no wrapper, there’s no fiddling or wasted time tearing open packaging. The bar held up well in my leggings pocket, never crumbling or sticking.

Chewing was effortless while running, and the sweetness provided a quick mental and physical lift, followed by a sustained release from the oat base. Importantly, I experienced no bloating or stomach discomfort — an issue that can plague athletes with other energy bars or gels. For me, it ticked every performance box: convenience, digestibility, steady fuel, and comfort.

Value

At full price, these bars sit toward the premium end of the market. However, the brand’s subscription option lowers the per-bar cost, making it much more affordable for regular users.

When you factor in the eco-friendly wrapper-free design, portability, and performance reliability, the value becomes clear. While cheaper energy bars exist, few are as thoughtfully designed for athletes’ real-world needs. If you train regularly and want fuel that works without fuss, the slightly higher cost feels justified.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes — absolutely. The One Good Thing wrapper-free flapjack is an energy bar that goes beyond novelty. For runners, cyclists, hikers, and anyone who needs on-the-go fuel without the hassle of messy wrappers or heavy digestion, it’s a practical game-changer.

The Bakewell flavour was satisfying but not overpowering, and with several flavour options available, there’s something for most palates. If you value clean ingredients, minimal waste, and convenience, this bar is a smart addition to your training or race-day routine.

I was really surprised by how much I liked OGT bars. The beeswax coating is a bit unusual at first, but it actually works — no messy wrappers stuffed in your pocket, and the bar still tastes fresh. The flavours feel like a proper treat (Cherry Bakewell mid-run? Yes please) and they go down really easily when you’re working hard. They’re definitely made with endurance types in mind, but honestly, I’d happily eat them as a snack too. Overall, though, they’ve won me over — tasty, practical, and better for the planet.

+ PROS: Sweat and waterproof Great flavours Easy on my gut (running) No artificial flavours
    - CONS: Would have liked a smaller taster pack to discover my favourite flavours.

The chocolate and orange OGT is yummy. I thought it may be too sickly sweet but it proved otherwise. Taking a mouthful every half hour kept me fuelled on long rides and I didn’t need to worry about putting the bar back into a wrapper or getting rid of it.
The only slight downside was when I put the bar in my top tube bag alongside my phone I did find that the wax rubbed off onto the phone, however that has not stopped me.
The OGT’s are a game changer for long cycle rides and I would highly recommend.

+ PROS: No wrapping Easy to use on bike Tasty Kept me fuelled on long rides
    - CONS: Wax coating rubs off on phone when in top tube bag

    OGT, more like OMG 😍

I can’t say how delighted I was to hear about this wrapper-free oat snack.

How I wish all sports nutrition could be this innovative!

I loved the range of flavours, chocolate orange being the one I’d probably look forward to the most.

As a swimmer it was easy to chew with good texture, and sat well in my stomach. No stickyness, no mess.

The beeswax coating is similar to the skin of an apple, and can be dusted off if there’s any bits on it. The coating is there, but doesn’t taste of anything. They hold together even if they get a bit wet, or even completely submerged in the water.

I would use these bars as an ‘on the hour’ snack during long swims, or even have in my snack box at the end of a pool session.

All in all, these are revolutionary, and I would be happy to repurchase to see what other products they come up with to further change the eco game of sports nutrition!

+ PROS: -Tastes like real food. -Top marks for cardboard packaging and zero wrapper. - Kept me up on long swims - Easy to eat and digest.
    - CONS: -Would be good to know how long they last for once the box is opened.

Wow, these are great! I tried the variety pack and took the salted caramel and honeycomb on a ride with me and they were fab! I love anything oat based but sometimes find them a bit too sweet, this one wasn’t too sweet and had a good flavour. The Salted caramel tasted ‘real’ not fake like some flavours can do. The bar was easy to digest and easy to eat on the go. I put this in my back pocket for my ride and it survived the ride, the beeswax coating reminded me a bit of rice paper that you get on cup cakes but not as dry – I didn’t immediately feel i needed a swig of juice to follow the bar. The honeycomb was also lovely to eat on the go. I’m excited to try the cherry Bakewell and chocolate Orange next on my ride.

+ PROS: Delicious Tasty Handy to pack Easy on the tummy Tastes like real food! No wrappers to worry about - winner!
    - CONS: Not sure how they would last in the rain in a pocket?

As someone who normally uses gels on my long swims/rides I was really pleasantly surprised by how great these bars are!
The flavours are gorgeous; standout favourites were the lemon drizzle, cherry Bakewell & the simply divine chocolate orange ; what a mid ride treat that was.

They survived both a ride in my rear pocket & a training swim in my towfloat; they are easy to eat & kept my energy levels topped up perfectly – I’m a convert!

+ PROS: Great selection of flavours Easy to transport - no wrappers 🙌 Real food 24g carb per bar
    - CONS: Would like the option to create your own box of preferred flavours

I struggle to use gels and I am always on the hunt for a new product to try that will not only be easy on my tummy but will give me big flavours and OGT has certainly ticked all those boxes.

Using the OGT bars before, during and after my runs was a game changer for me. The release of energy and the ‘feel good factor’ left me very satisfied and will now incorporate into my nutritional race plan. Even after my swimming sessions the protein bars left my hunger pangs satisfied.

Overall the flavours leave you wanting to try them all at once. My favorite by far is lemon drizzle.

+ PROS: Very easy to digest even just before going out for a run or swim. No messing about with having to unwrap and then finding a bin for the wrapper. Very tasty. The lemon drizzle is my favorite by far.
    - CONS: Not easy to travel long distances to races with. I ended up using a bag to pop them in to ensure they didn’t get squished. The initial first bite might be a little weird because of the texture but when you bite through the flavour come out

I am used to using gels so not having a wrapper to tear into was a pleasant surprise. I had walked around with the bar in my leggings pocket for a few hours before using it on a run. Despite this it didn’t taste any different and it was not difficult to eat.

My favourite flavour so far is definitely chocolate and orange. I love a cherry Bakewell but I wasn’t enjoying the cherry tones so I’ll stick with chocolate orange or lemon drizzle.

+ PROS: Easy to transport Pocket sized No wrapper Range of flavours Easy to chew
    - CONS: Beeswax lining is noticeable on the first bite
